25 years at Glenfarclas
Speyside,
June 2007:
Tommy Webster, one of the characters that makes Glenfarclas,
has
celebrated twenty five years at the family owned distillery.
Tommy joined Glenfarclas on the 7th June 1982.
Initially Tommy worked in the warehouses, under the guidance
of Geordie Robertson and Fred Mellis, before spending many
years as a mashman. Today Tommy is Head Warehouseman, and
along with his colleagues, looks after 52000 casks maturing in
the Banffshire distillery’s dunnage warehouses. Within the
warehouses the casks are moved entirely by hand, and as the
sherry casks can weigh up to half a tonne, working in the
warehouses requires skill and is physically demanding.

John Grant, Chairman
of Glenfarclas commented, ‘Not
much has changed in our warehouses since 1982, we still mature
our whiskies in traditional dunnage warehouses, so the
warehouseman’s work remains just as challenging. Twenty five
years service is a fantastic achievement, and I congratulate
Tommy.’
