DOUBLE GOLD FOR THE GLENROTHES

The Glenrothes 1975 Vintage has been awarded a prestigious Double Gold medal at the 2008 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. To put this achievement in perspective, over 800 spirits were entered in this year’s competition representing 63 countries. The Double Gold medal is the latest in an impressive haul of recent accolades for The Glenrothes. At the 2008 World Whiskies Awards, The Glenrothes Select Reserve was awarded Best in Class, The Glenrothes 25 Year Old was voted New Release of the Year and The Glenrothes 1978 Vintage was recognised as the Best Speyside Malt.“The Glenrothes has always been about flavour rather than awards,” stated Ronnie Cox, Whisky Ambassador of the Year 2008. “However recognition is terrifically satisfying as it suggests that all the effort that goes into delivering maximum flavour for our whisky is appreciated by our peers and whisky enthusiasts alike.”

As with all variants of The Glenrothes, the 1975 Vintage is released in keeping with the policy of bottling selected casks at their point of optimum maturity and maximum flavour. The succinct tasting notes on the label describe the character of the 1975 Vintage as “rich fruits, citrus, nutty, toffee vanilla.” However, very tall stills, an unusually slow second distillation and an unparalleled cask management policy combine to make The Glenrothes one of the most well-balanced and flavoursome of single malts.Appearance:  Deep golden, clear and bright

Nose:           Vanilla, nutty and fruity with a hint of orange and lemon
Palate:          Rich, toffee vanilla, dark chocolate, nutty, grapefruit
Finish:           Good length, medium sweet

All The Glenrothes Vintages are of course finite and rare. Few more so than the 1975 of which only 3708 bottles were ever made.
