WHISKY TASTING RESULTS

Tasting is subjective; we all have different preferences. However, some drinks are better balanced than others, and it is this harmony of flavours and nuances that determines the best.

Whisky is a balance of grain, wood, environment, process and timing, all of which can make or break the spirit. Our regular tastings will consider these attributes and highlight the stars. We are extremely fortunate in having a highly respected panel of judges.

The tasting panel consists of 12 ‘noses’ who all have experience as Master Distillers, Master Blenders and consultants in the Scotch whisky trade, most still working full time producing and overseeing our favourite drams. Many members of our panel also participate in the International Wine & Spirit Competition – an organisation that has shown great integrity for over 30 years. In our tastings we will utilise the same scoring system set by the IWSC, and our judges will at no time be aware of what they are sampling – they will be judging blind, with each whisky in an unlabelled sample bottle.For each batch of tastings we will select six members from our panel of 12 who will submit scores and comments. These scores will be combined together then divided by six to give marks out of 100. Their comments will be noted but we will not reveal which six judges carried out which tastings.

By utilising this process we believe our results will be impartial, balanced, credible, authoritive and as good a basis as possible for recommendations.
