About this deal

Its cleaning power on carpets and hard floors is equally limited, however, and its disappointing build quality and poor ergonomics make it an ongoing challenge to use. From a completely flat battery, it turned blue to indicate it was fully charged some five-and-a-half hours to six later. Smart charging also means that you can leave it on charge permanently to ensure it’s always ready for cleaning duties. Conversely, our small and dainty octogenarian tester – with hands slightly smaller than a Barbie doll – said she couldn’t reach the trigger if she held the cleaner in her right hand.

Being disabled I need something light and easy to use, this ticks all the boxes and I'll never go back to anything else. It took about a nano-second after getting the Hoover Freedom out of the box to realise that the main cleaner is all but identical to arch-rival Vax’s SlimVac Total Home.

This stick vacuum offers convenient cordless cleaning throughout your home, with powerful 22v lithium performance. The crevice tool helps you tackle those difficult to reach areas with the option to combine tools with the handheld or pole for extra-long reach, you won’t miss a spot. Since the floor-head appears to have some stick-down when the tube is more vertical at the end of the backstroke, pushing forward to overcome that creates some alarming flex. When used as a stick vacuum, it is lightweight and manoeuvrable, but as a handheld vacuum it feels heavy and quite bulky, particularly in tight spaces like car cleaning.

With no dedicated hard-floor head you’ll need to use the standard floor-head, even though the brush can’t be switched off. This is a good few minutes shy of the similar Vax SlimVac or, indeed, Hoover’s own claimed run-time.

A crevice tool is included to tackle all sorts of jobs, such as vacuuming dust up from skirting boards. We and our partners use cookies and similar tech to improve your site experience, show you personalised ads, and learn from your behaviour so we can, for example, recommend products you'll love! The action of agitating the tool against the carpet shifts a fair bit of debris – but again, you need some arm strength to do it. It's fast - pick up and use and get to things like spider's webs and crumbs in seconds say if someone's coming round and you have 2 mins - God send! We love that it can be used as an upright stick as well as a handheld unit and there are plenty of useful attachments that make it even more versatile, such as the 2-in-1 nozzle that is hinged to help you get into awkward areas.

The main body offers up the same angular design of the Vax, so it’s no surprise to discover it’s seriously uncomfortable in the hand. Its continuous power mode is for larger vacuuming tasks there’s no risk of aching fingers from holding the trigger.A soft and good-sized dusting brush that clips to this, and looks suitable for battling high-rise cobwebs. For me, it’s impossible to reach if I have the cleaner in my left hand, and the lever digs into the top of my finger. Freedom cleans your floors beautifully thanks to its rotating brush bar, but it can also be used as a handheld vacuum in your car, on your stairs or on just about any other surface in the home. Without a doubt, the best and cheapest cordless vacuum and you will toss your corded after you try this like I did and it takes up much less space too! The rotating brush bar works wonders on your carpets, whilst the removable handheld helps you to tackle stairs and other tricky spots.
