About this deal

This lens has fantastic bokeh and makes your images look dreamy. It blends creaminess and sharpness in a way that’s earned it many fans in the professional photography field. Best for What Type of Travel Photography So let’s break down the Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4 lens’ features, with a look at why these make it such a brilliant camera lens for travel photographyand street photography. Fujifilm XF 35mm Handling / Build Quality – Fuji 35mm 1.4 Lens Hood Honestly, everything you’ve ever read about the Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4 is true. It is extraordinary. I’ve had the lens for a couple of months now and it has not left my X-T2. I don’t think I could ever take it off. It’s a bit wider. This means you can fit more in, such as buildings or street photography scenes when you travel. It can also be used for landscapes in a pinch. When looking at build quality alone, the 35mm f2 is nicer. It’s a single barrel with internal focusing, so nothing moves. The 35mm f1.4 has two barrels where the outer barrel dances around when focusing. I’ve dropped the 35mm f2 from waist high on concrete by accident once, and everything is still fine. Most lenses wouldn’t survive that. Don’t drop your lenses obviously.

The reality is, both of these lenses will give you stunning, sharp photos with great bokeh. The real question is whether you are looking for something that is also a wide angle lens or not, and your budget. The 23mm f1.4 is definitely in the upper price range when it comes to Fuji lenses. The 35mm (50mm) field of view and compression is said to be closest to that of the human eye. It’s not called a nifty-fifty for no reason; it is good for everything. Travel, street, detail shots, food and portraits. This is one lens that really does do all. Mechanically, the focus motor in the 35mm f/1.4 is probably the loudest of all X-series lenses. The new f/2 lens has a completely silent and very fast focusing motor. The f/2 is definitely a faster performer in the autofocus department, and in my experience, hunts a bit less in very dim light as well. Test #1 – Close Up PerformanceAs you can see, the “layered” highlights are clearly visible in the middle portion of the frame where the highlights are fairly strong. However, if you look at the left side of the image where the highlights are not as strong, the onion shape is much less pronounced. I would not be too concerned with this, since you would not encounter such strong highlights very often in everyday photography. Plus, I would not expect a standard lens to create flawless bokeh – that’s more in the court of specialized portrait lenses. X-Pro1 + XF35mmF1.4 R @ 35mm, ISO 200, 1/1200, f/2.0

Are you on a mid-level budget, and you want better autofocus performance, a bit less bokeh, and weather-resistance is important to you? Get the 35mm f2. Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4 Lens Review, everything you need to know about the Fuji 35mm f/1.4 and what makes this a great lens to add to your Fuji lenses line-up. The optics are impressively good, and photos can be shot wide open at 1.4 without sacrificing sharpness. It does decline a little around the edges when it’s fully open like that, but the difference is so minimal you’re not likely to see it. After owning this lens for a few years now, I have taken it with me on many of my travels, capturing everything from epic cityscapes to street photography in my home city of London. The Fujifilm 33mm f1.4 R WR LM doesn’t necessarily have innovations per se except for the linear motor design. This makes it incredibly fast. Even if you don’t nail the autofocus perfectly, you probably won’t care because of Fujifilm’s great film simulation render. And if you’re not using those, then you’re not using Fujifilm correctly as they apply to the RAW images. Couple that with the sharp image quality that this lens delivers, and you’ve got something great and innovative to the Fuji system. However, it’s not an overall innovation to the industry. By comparison, the Fujifilm 50mm f1 R WRis the world’s first autofocusing f1 lens. Gear Used However, image quality is not entirely on par with the 35mm f/1.4 lens (she is the superior of the two lenses, and I am not basis at all). It doesn’t shoot as well in low light, and if you prefer to shoot at a shallow depth of field, the f/1.4 is definitely the better option. If not, though, the 35mm f/2 is definitely worth considering. I have to agree that this test shows that the f/1.4 copy is terrible. It looks nothing like what my old one produced on a consistent basis. Though, the f/2 version isn’t extremely impressive. I shot a few of both while testing them at a camera shop, inside and outside as well. The thing is, the f/1.4 IS definitely sharper (if only slightly) than the f/2 version from f/2 on up. Slight, but noticeable. Even with the ‘paper specs’ being different, the f/1.4 only loses in the autofocus department, and softness in the corners (which, for a lens with this sort of aperture is expected anyway.) Compatible with the Fujifilm X-Pro1and X-series camera bodies, this lens is brilliant, producing high-quality images from a robust small frame. I have found it a joy to shoot with the Fujifilm XF 35mm 1.4 lens.

EDUCATION: Chris graduated Magna Cum Laude from Adelphi University with a degree in Communications in Journalism in 2009. Since then, he's learned and adapted to various things in the fields of social media, SEO, app development, e-commerce development, HTML, etc. Most lenses get dusty over time, and while weather sealing is nice on the 35mm f2, it doesn’t make the lens invincible. But, if you are traveling out to deserts or dusty environments, you will really appreciate this lens. Now that we’ve compared the specifics, it’s easy to identify which types of photography each lens is best suited for. The f/1.4 lens is ideal for portrait photography and photographing in low light conditions because of its large aperture.
