When used with an Android phone, tapping and holding activates Google Assistant, allowing you to issue commands and ask questions that are answered when you remove your finger. I also like the overall design of the Pixel Buds, despite the discomfort that I get after extended use. In addition, the second-generation Pixel Buds charging case has two LED indicators, one inside the lid (for the charging status of the earbuds) and one external (for the charging and pairing statuses of the case); the A-Series charging case has only the one external indicator that combines both functions. Clear, balanced and full sound with excellent separation of tones and detail make them ideal for most music genres. Case status light (closed case): The light on the front of a closed charging case will indicate battery levels of the Pixel Buds A-Series charging case itself when plugged in, when the lid is recently closed, or after pressing the button on the back of the case when the case is closed.

The Google Pixel Buds A-Series really aren't audiophile-grade earbuds and don't hold up to the highest-end earbuds in terms of audio quality. It adds a little more than the SoundGuys ideal, but this EQ is still much more suited to music than the other one. The EDM classic Ghosts N Stuff by Deadmau5 sounds rightfully bassy with the Google Pixel Buds Series-A, and while the mids and highs never quite shimmer, the low-end is a definite step up from the previous model.When you pair the Pixel Buds A-Series to an Android device, you can even access the Google Assistant with just your voice, so long as you download the Pixel Buds app (more on this in the next section). Your Google Pixel Buds Pro will last up to 11 hours before needing a charge and up to 31 hours total listening time with the wireless charging case.

Admittedly, losing the latter is a minor inconvenience, but with Google Assistant built in, all you need to do is ask Google to do it for you.

If your Pixel Buds are in the charging case, you can press the case button to toggle between your Pixel Buds' battery and the battery in the charging case. With ANC on, the battery life lasts just over seven hours on the Pixel Buds Pro, significantly longer than the Pixel Buds A-Series. However, I do appreciate that Google offers the Pixel Buds in three additional colors: Oh So Orange, Quite Mint, and Almost Black. Industrial design of the Pixel Buds A-Series again was led by Gina Reimann for Google, heading a team that included Dustin Lee and Jeremiah Baker. For example, if you’re on a crowded bus, the earbuds will hear all that background noise and then increase the volume of the music.
